Summary: Life in the holy bros hive

It's not the easiest of arrangements, each of them having different rooms to stay in scattered about, but they've made it work somehow. Helmsman tucked in comfortably in a bed and Di and Signless bedding down on the floor next to him along with frequent visits to Psii to make sure that he's okay. And then Dolorosa arrived and took charge of mothercluckbeasting all of them, and with the amount of time they all spend trying to be close to each other...well. They're going to need to step up their efforts at getting their own place.

But in the meantime they're together, and that makes just about anything bearable.

Now if only it was so easy to get them all back to normal like that.

Dolorosa admires it for a moment, remembering how it felt to huddle around a fire with them, remembering the soft flow of words. So different from this cramped space deep underground, from the tension that sometimes seems to fill every single room. There was still danger back then, but it had always seemed... manageable somehow. It seemed as if they had a chance.

"You have done a marvelous job of recreating things on paper as usual, my little kitten."

She nuzzles her face to Dolorosa's shoulder, laughing happily at the praise. It seems a small enough thing, drawing them as things used to be rather as how they are, but for her it means hope, hope that one day they'll have achieved that comfortable ease together once again.

"Would you like it? You can have it if you want." It'll be a simple enough thing to pluck the page out of her book, goodness knows she's done that many times before with her drawings, and bound more pages in to replace the ones she's taken. It's only Signless words that are never allowed to leave the safety of the covers.

"That is very sweet of you." Dolorosa presses a kiss against her hair. "But it would be much nicer and overall aesthetically pleasing if we placed it somewhere in the hive." Her fingers trace over the edges of the paper as she thinks. "Perhaps we can frame it or place it on the thermal hull."

"Perhaps we can wait until we're in our new hive, and then frame it and place it somewhere there?" she suggests, looking thoughtful. She needed to grab hold of Alhen and get a move on with finding the means for them to afford a place to live.

Oh, and that reminds her! "I went to do those sketches you told me about! It took a while but it wasn't too hard. I hope they'll be happy with them."

"Perhaps somewhere near the entrance," she muses. A new hive sounds like such a nice thing. They will all have the proper room to stretch, to do their own activities and such. It will take a while, but she is sure they can do it. It will certainly be a first: an official, legally bought hive.

She's dragged out of her thoughts by Disciple's exclamation. "I am quite glad that all went well. How was the experience, then?"

"Mmhmm, it would be a nice thing to see when entering the hive." She'd have to make sure the others liked the idea too first, of course, but she thinks that they will. Perhaps she should draw something extra for Psii as well since he's not in this one. A picture of him with his Sollux, maybe.

She flips through her book until she comes to a few loose sheets of paper, the discarded sketches that didn't make the final cut. "It was interesting! He wanted to recreate some paintings that were lost and he told me a little bit about them as I was drawing. He took most of the sketches I made, these are just the ones left over."

Adjusting herself so she can get a better look. Carefully, she begins to flip through the pages. They may be the rejects, but Dolorosa still would rather them undamaged anyway.

"These are all very curious. The artist is one of the aliens in this world who is part featherbeast, isn't that correct? It must have been quite enjoyable to sketch him. I have seen some of their kind flying above the city."

Disciple has been careful of them as well. She means to keep them, if only because she wants to learn more about the races native to this world.

"That's right! I really did enjoy it, I probably would have helped out even if he wasn't offering anything in return. But, well...I don't really have any good drawing supplies here with me, and this way I won't have to wait until we have enough money so that I can buy some."

"So it works out for everyone involved then." A satisfied nod. "I am glad that it worked out well for you then."

"It did!" she agrees cheerfully. It had done her good to be able to do something that had her feeling useful, and that involved drawing as well. "Rosa...would you sit for me some time? I want to make proper portraits of all of us." And though she knows them all well enough to draw them without them actually being there, having them in front of her would give an extra bit of life to the drawings, or so she hopes.

Dolorosa raises a hand to touch her own hair. She knows that she sometimes isn't in the best of state since coming here, working almost all the time as she is, but still. "I would be honored to sit for you, little kitten. Whenever you need me, I would love to have a portrait done by you."

Dolorosa will never look anything less than elegant and graceful to Di, no matter the mess she might be in. "Oh, thank you! Then maybe we can do it some time soon." She just hopes she can do the lovely jadeblood justice on paper.

A chuckle. "Perhaps during a period time when all of our fussy little boys are resting and not causing trouble."

"Oh no!" she exclaims, pressing the back of her hand to her forehead dramatically. "Then it'll never be done!"

Covering her mouth with her hand, Dolorosa tries to stifle her giggles. "We will simply have to find an extremely clever way to make them unconscious. I suggest gratuitous smothering with pillows."

"This sounds acceptable," Di agrees in serious tones. "Rolling on the pillows as we smother them might help as well!" She's not laughing. No, really.

...yes, of course she is.

Well, if Disciple is laughing, then Dolorosa is inclined to as well, still doing her best to hide it.

That's the good thing about having Di with her. She knows that if it was just one of them on their own, there might not be so much light laughter filling up the hive.

"Oh, it's so good to have you here with us!" It looks like they're both thinking the same thing, and Di burrows against Dolorosa's shoulder, book neglected for a moment in favour of clinging.

Dolorosa welcomes the burrowing with open arms, which wrap around Disciple comfortingly. "It is good to have you all surrounding me, Di.

She cuddles close, glad to have someone she can hold on to and lean on. "Perhaps we'll finally all be safe here, safe and happy and together."

"In this place, anything is possible." Cradling Di in her arms, Dolorosa begins to hum softly. "Anything."

Anything is possible. Those words are good to hear, and as she lets Dolorosa comfort her, she really believe that they might be true.
